A study on the urinary chromium excretion in cement workers

Abstract
The present study was undertaken to determinate the chromium excretion level in urine of the cement workers. One hundred and forty five samples were collected and analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer.
The results obtained were as follows
1. The mean urinary chromium concentration was 7.2¥ìg/l in normal control group and 33.8 ¥ìg /1 in the study group.
The highest level was found among the cement carrier in the study group. In the study group, 10 cases(8.9%) showed above the lower limit value of toxicity.
2. When the urinary concentration of chromium was adjusted with reference to urinary specific gravity of 1.024, the mean urinary chromium concentration was 10.2 ug/l in normal control group, 32.4,ug/l in the study group and 8.3,ug/l in the age-standardized control group.
3. The urinary chromium excretion levels were not different among variousage groups.
4. According to the duration of worker¢¥s employment, the mean urinary chromium concentration was 30.8,ug/1 in 0.4 years group, and 33.4,ug/1 in over 5, years group.
